Developing private sector whilst retaining a public sector is key for the socialist growth model of Sri Lanka?
Without encountering a Marxist/Capitalist argument can we review businesses in the SME and repackage where possible items such as the textile shops and crafts enterprises that have a built in tourist base and are currently suffering from the lack of tourism (being a short-term crisis) whilst promoting a limited number of mid to large scale privaye enterprises such as the medical college. It is a waste of retail space, trained and qualified staff and profit generating public enterprise to not allow a recovery period along with a commercial repackaging option for existing state-owned businesses. We do not want to waste money in tear-down and rebuild if new products, services and image can restore and grow a business. It is also key to remember that many returning visitors frequent these shops specifically because of personal relationship development and the knowledge that these enterprises offer the goods that they historically purchase.

I have mentioned prior a social contract between Government and The People. We as a Democratic Socialist Republic have the responsibility of providing employment, especially during lean times. I believe that the IMF is out of its purview in shutting down valuable tourism based industries without considering the very reasonablly priced revamps that can polish their lost lustre and increase sales, such as creating new profit generating departments that are cost-effective, modern and internationally accesible. For I am of the opinion that Brandix can fend for itself in the export market while the little guys that support macro-business cannot be forced to fall for they feed many sectors of our local population and we can as esily as the IMF change concept and save ourselves the cost of tear down/rebuild/vacancy. Its all a little too American for us. There are many things American that we like but this is not one of them.
